Orientation
Orientation is provided by the Swansea University, about 40 minutes west of Cardiff. Swansea has many years of experience with visiting American students and interns, and provides a valuable program to help students adjust to life in Wales. Orientation provides an opportunity to get accustomed to the new environment and meet the Swansea faculty who will be available for information or advice throughout the students' time in Britain. Also while in Swansea, students are taken on day trips to locations around Wales such as Britain's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gower Peninsula. Before leaving Swansea, interns will be introduced to the intensive course on British Culture & Politics that they will be taking. This course includes discussion of contemporary films, books, and music; and focuses on the interaction of politics and popular culture. Upon arrival in Cardiff, interns will meet with a representative from the Assembly, who will provide further orientation.
